RISC fundraiser 2/27/15

We are taking over the taps at Nisei Lounge on February 27th, to raise money for RISC (Reporters Instructed in Saving Colleagues). RISC is a week-long battlefield medical training class for freelance combat journalists who couldn’t otherwise afford expensive medical training. Sebastian Junger, author of The Perfect Storm and War,started the class after his friend and colleague Tim Hetherington (Restrepo), was killed in Libya. Hetherington died from a wound that would have proved non-fatal if any of the freelancers around him had basic medical training. RISC is supported by a number of organizations including HBO, National Geographic, and CNN, but a majority of the funding comes from private funding though events like ours. We’re sponsoring a raffle with prizes from local businesses, and obviously, some heavy drinking.

It’s a Friday night, you know you’ll be drinking somewhere, why not make it with us, and for a good cause?

All tip money and raffle money will go directly to helping train freelance combat journalists in battlefield medicine.
